I can't imagine that there are too many people who have a simpler time doing their taxes. I have one job, I'm not married, I don't own a home so it pretty much comes down to filling in the boxes and calculating my return. It's actually quite easy when you take the standard deduction. Thanks to Tax Slayer which I discovered in college the act of filing your taxes is really easy but I never know if I am getting the full amount for the refund. And that is where my frustration kicks in.

I had a friend who was quite the democrat. (I know shocking I have friends who are democrats) I told her that no matter how much of a democrat you are, whenever you get your first pay check and you see how much the government takes for that split second you are a bit more Republican. She of course totally disaggreed with me but I still believe that.
Seeing that it was April 12th I assembled the three documents I needed for my taxes and went to work. It only took about thirty minutes or so and after I was done, I thought to myself, really, that's it? That's all I'm getting back? So I called my Dad. I told him what I was getting back and he said that sounds great. I asked him are you sure? In classic Dad fashion he responded "How should I know, I pay someone to do my taxes." Thanks Dad...incredibly helpful. He suggested I call Marc. I think my brother in law majored in accounting but accept for one summer auditing Carl's Jr. never did accounting. My best friend JJ is also an accountant but he does audit and my roommate Michael is out getting maced in Georgia so he was unavailable to help.
They say that there are only two constants in life, death and taxes. Yep, that sounds about right.
Now the exciting part is that I will be able to use my tax return plus the proceeds gained form selling the Honda to rejoin the driving class. After more than two years without a car, it is becoming increasingly necessary to have my own vehicle. I was trying to figure out a way to get a Porsche for my set budget of 13,000 but all the Boxsters for that price are quite old and have tons of miles. I feel like this is the time in my life to be a bit impractical so I am looking at Dodge Durangos. I think they are cool and the don't hold their new car value that well so you can get some great deals on fairly new ones with low miles. So I turn to you my faithful readers, what kind of car do you think I should get?

I say this out of love:
Durrangos are so cheap because no one wants them... why? Because they break and they suck. I think many of them were recalled.
I also say this out of love:
Lets get a minivan together, and put stick figure stickers on the back window indicating our family... oh, and mormon vanity plates too, please.
A Durango is practical for a single male living in the city?
May be time for plan B.
Actually, get the Durango then you can help everyone move.
I will sell you my car for $12,999. It is in great shape, trust me.
I wouldn't get an SUV unless you plan on taking a lot of road trips with people. If you're going to be impractical, I'd choose a sportier car rather than a big car.
You are single no house and no kids! How are you getting a refund at all?!? I'm married, have a kid, and pay more on my house then what earn every month and I still owe!
Get an old Porsche 1975-1985 for $10,000. Save $2000 for when you need to fix it. How much do really need to drive anyway? It will not depreciate anymore then what it currently is.
You also have a cousin who is a democrat. I happen to know of a great 2000 BMW 740 iL, the radio works....most of the time. HAHA. Don't get a Dodge, they are unluxury. Please consult with me before making any big car decisions.
Pete - I have to agree, the durangoes *look* good, but they have a bad reputation. I say go for something fun, sporty and sexy. Save the SUV for when you have kids and responsibilities.
Are there any local auctions? Any connections there? The friend of ours who had a boxster bought it at an auction.
get a car that will get you to charlottesville and/or blacksburg really fast! :)
