My sister and blogger extraordinaire Jennifer, has a running feature on her blog called IHR or I Highly Recommend. She details things in her life that she likes, whether it is a cool magazine, a pair of shoes, or a new restaurant. Well I would like to give my recommendation for a book I just finished for the 4th time. I believe it is the only novel I've read more than twice. It is called "The Good Earth".
I think I read this book for the first time when I was a senior in high school. I read it once as an intern in college, I read it during the summer of 2007, and I finished it again yesterday.
I often get similar reactions such as: Why do you like a book about pre -revolutionary China? Isn't that about the guy who buys a second wife?
My answers: Yes, but its message is appropriate for anyone. That isn't what the story is about.
I don't know exactly why I love this book so much. I think it is because it reinforces that with hard work and a little luck, even those from the humblest of backgrounds can go on to do great things. It also teaches you to appreciate the things that you have.
I have recommended this book to many people, I doubt many have taken up my recommendation. I will however recommend it again, because I just like it so much.

It's one of my favorites as well. Glad you reminded me!! I'll have to read it again this summer.
Ok, thank you Peter. Remember how you were trying to read it at breakfast? That was rather unluxury. Game 7 Monday!!!!!
If I ever have time to read, maybe I will check it out.
I read it in HS - I remember liking it too, maybe I need to read it again.
