We did it. We got them married off. And by "we" I mean the groomsmen, bridesmaids, family, friends, and of course the Silver Bullet, which nobly chauffered us around the Phoenix Metro area.
I left Whittier, on Monday morning, with my dad's new GPS leading the way. Thanks to a few podcasts and ample time to think about my life I was able to safely cross the desert and arrive only a little late to pick up Scott at the airport, I hadn't taken into account the hour time change. As we were driving the song Regulate came on the radio. My sister Jennifer and I used to love this song. You NEVER hear this on the radio. Now some of you know that I am very superstitious, and the moment I heard this I knew that this was going to be a great marriage. I mean it's Regulate. I told Scott, he thought I was crazy.
We headed over to the venue for the reception and met up with the rest of the wedding party. David was pretty nervous and rightfully so. After figuring the logistics for everything that would be happening the next day, we grabbed David and headed over to the jewelery store to pick up the rings. One of my major responsibilities was to hold onto the rings. I took that very seriously.
As per Mormon guy bachelor party tradition we headed to Gameworks to eat a subpar meal, discuss the old days and play some video games. Whenever the four of us are together we have a great time. David told us that his only regret is that he hadn't started dating Nikki earlier. After a few epic basketball shoot outs we headed back to Nikki's parents' place. David gave me an address that was just a bit of and we ended up in a shady industrial area. After a consultation with David we figured out that Nikki's folks do not as a matter of fact live in a warehouse. The only thing that didn't go well the whole trip was the fact that the Lakers were in town and actually lost to the Suns.
John's brother Andrew was nice enough to put us up for the night and even fed us tamales. We figured out the schedule for the wedding day and knew that we had to have David out of bed by 7:00 AM. I really didn't sleep that night, as I was pretty nervous. David had forgotten his suit and Tuxedo at Nikki's place so we knew that there was a chance they would run into each other prematurely and that is of course bad luck. We called ahead and averted disaster. It's amazing all the little things that go into making a wedding and reception go smoothly. Whether it is making sure the shoes are shined, that the groom has shaving cream, or that the getaway car is decorated, there are so many things that you have to remember. I was hoping to get my haircut before the wedding but failed to do so. I didn't love my hair but thought it was okay.
The ceremony was performed by Nikki's grandpa who is 92 years old. It was lovely, and despite my best efforts it got very dusty in the room. I am just a sucker for weddings.
There had been a bit of worry about there being rain but it turned out to be a beautiful clear day.
Nikki looked absolutely beautiful, stunning, and David looked pretty handsome himself. Nikki's family was super nice and they all had the nicest things to say about David. He is lucky to be part of such a great family. David's mom and Dad came from Colombia, and despite the language barrier they had a wonderful time. It was touching to see David's dad give some last advice just before the sealing.
I got a brand new navy blue suit for the wedding and I must say that outside of the bride and groom I was the best looking person in attendance. We took pictures and hopefully they turned out great.
By this time I was absolutely starving, I was too nervous to eat much before the wedding, so it was a no brainer that we went to In-N-Out. I helped Scott and John order as they are not as experienced with INO as I am. They both loved it. Even Nikki and David showed up for a brief minute in their full wedding gear to pick something up. We gave them a standing ovation.
Now each groomsman had a responsibility. John who is a professional "advance" guy was perfect at keeping track of all the logistics. Scott was the jack of all trades. And I of course was the mischief maker. Every wedding party needs one. You know, the guy who will supervise the decorating of the car, purchase the provocative gifts, and just make sure everyone is having a good time. Our plan after the wedding was to run a few errands and then head to the venue where we could take a snoozer before the reception. We went all over Mesa and Phoenix to accumulate all the things we thought would make the evening fun for the newly weds. Sure it may have been a slight bit awkward at Target but it was still fun. And here is a helpful tip. The stuff you use to write on windows can be purchased at Michael's. We finally ran all our errands got back to the venue and waited for the festivities to begin.
Most of the guys and a few of the girls from the wedding party snuck out to decorate the car.
We helped load the presents and then left to take Scott to the airport. It was a long but incredibly rewarding day. I was so proud of David and happy for the new couple. I felt genuinely privileged to be a part of their special day.

I think you should become a professional wedding crashed because your wedding posts are always hilarious. I'm glad you had a fun time. We missed you up here.
For the record JoeJohn and I saved this wedding.
I remember a time a few years ago - I visited the Buchanan met David and Scott - I even think we had nachos. In case you are wondering, I'm still on the couch eating nachos, but I'm glad David is progressing.
I knew I could turn to you for a candid account of this fine event. Well done. I certainly hope you were not responsible for the content of the car decorations.
