Feeding The Beast + Monday Haiku

The mohawk is gone. After a pretty great four week run, I went to Diego's and had it trimmed. I went with the Jake Gyllenhall this time, which is apparently short on the sides with the clippers, and short on the top with scissors. I like it. I am also growing this sort of beard thing. I think I might shave it off. TBD. I am enjoying my summer tremendously and am scheduling my work days to maximize my enjoyment of the weather, and of course I am eating a bit better, and by better I mean more consistently.

You undoubtedly know that I am in no way a foodie. I get no particular joy out of eating, and for the most part I just consider it fuel. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a good meal, but I am only aware of that when I am hungry, which isn't so often. As a matter of fact, I felt hungry and thought, wow I should probably eat as this feeling does not occur so often. I do however recognize that it isn't right that someone who is 6'3" hovers around what I generally weigh. About two weeks ago I was extended an invitation to join a dinner group. In exchange for cooking once every two weeks, I get fed dinner Monday through Thursday. This seemed reasonable enough, so I accepted the invitation.

I don't cook that often, but I can follow a recipe well enough. I figured, between Sloppy Joes and Swedish Meatballs, and the other things that I know how to make, I would be ok. In discussion with my sister Jennifer, we decided that I should attempt to make Cafe Rio type pork salads. She sent me the recipe and off I went on a culinary expedition. This included consulting my dad several times on how to shop for and prepare the meat, trips to three different stores, eight hours of preparation, and many additional hours worrying if it would taste good.

It didn't taste like Cafe Rio, but it did taste really good, since I made so much I invited some friends over besides the dinner group. I was proud of my creation and relieved when it was all over, well at least for another week.
