I want you to know something. You will never be as smart as Chuck Klosterman. You will never construct a sentence as well as Chuck Klosterman. You will never make tenous connections between pop culture subjects as brillianty as Chuck Klosterman. And I won't either. I am okay with this and you should be too.
I first discovered Chuck when he and Bill Simmons went head to head in 2004. He even got a shout out on the OC. Needless to say the that once he made a reference to Alien vs. Predator, I was in. I went to the library and checked out his book Sex, Drugs, and Coco Puffs. Yesterday, I finished that book for the fourth time. I absolutely love it.
Among the gems in this book, Chuck explains the cultural significance of Saved By The Bell, how Luke Skywalker was the first Gen-Xer, and that Lloyd Dobler is responsible for women having unrealistic expectations about men. I have given this book as a gift at least twice, and recommend it to many friends.
I follow Chuck on Twitter, have read all of his books, and was bummed when he stopped writing his column for Esquire. Occasionally Chuck will be on the BS Report with Bill Simmons. You can be assured that when this is the case, I am very excited.
I guess Chuck isn't for everyone, but if you like sports, music, movies, art, pop culture, or just about anything else, Chuck has an opinion on it, and he'll probably make you laugh when you read it.

It is 1933. You are in Berlin, Germany. Somehow you find yourself in position to effortlessly steal Adolf Hitler’s wallet. This theft will not affect Hitler’s rise to power, the nature of World War II, or the Holocaust. There are no important papers in the wallet, but the act will cost Hitler forty Reichsmarks and completely ruin his evening. You do not need the money. The odds that you will be caught are less than 2% but if caught you will be executed. Are you ethically obligated to steal Hitler’s wallet?
P.S. I'm really sorry that I currently have a silent prayer in my heart that Klose will break his leg before Saturday.
upon peter's recommendation I borrowed the book from him this morning. I can't put it down (but that's because I haven't picked it up yet...)
How excited?
Thanks for SDACP. I still have your copy of Eating the Dinosaur that I keep forgetting to get back to you. Loved the sections about time travel, Rivers Cuomo, and the connection between football and politics.
I have to agree with Peter, Chuck Klosterman is a great writer and I have thoroughly enjoyed his books. My wife is embarrassed every time I say my favorite book is called Sex, Drug's and Cocoa Puffs.
Peter, I appreciate you introducing me to both Bill Simmons and Chuck Klosterman, my life wouldn't be the same without you.
I just finished the Drugs, Sex, and Cocoa Puffs. Thanks petechat for the recommendation.
