All Full From The Hunger Games and how I had the Time of My Life.

Three weeks ago I had only the vaguest sense of what the Hunger Games were. Chances are you too have  heard about these books written for teenagers that for some reason are hovering around cultural phenomenon status. It's not Harry Potter level, but there seems to be a lot of people who are big into the Hunger Games. Over the last three weeks I read all three of the books (it's not Ulysses) and now can rest comfortably knowing that should I find myself in a conversation where it comes up, I can have a well founded opinion about them.

My friend, fellow cougar fan, and recent birthday celebrant Julie Allen, was nice enough to loan books to books to me. In a mostly unrelated note Julie had her birthday party at a place called Sergio's in Maryland. Scott, Dan, Paul and Mary all made the trip up there with me. There was karaoke, and the atmosphere was really fun. Normally I will only sing karaoke in a private room but for whatever reason I got in my mind that I needed to sing.

The question was, what would I sing? After careful consideration I decided on  a duet to I've had the Time of My Life . As tthe time came closer and closer and I knew I would be up next, I looked down and realized I was wearing a snap shirt. Knowing that the shirt was my source of confidence I knew I would be fine, but was fine really enough? No, I needed to own that place, so I ran out to my car and added a bit of flair. Although it sort of looks like I am wearing a T-Shirt with Derek and Joni on it, I am in fact wearing a shirt featuring Sweden's newest royal couple. Stephanie bought it for me when she was in Sweden, and knew it would be right in my wheelhouse.

I put my shirt on and my championship belt which I keep in my trunk for just these situations, and proceeded to bring the house down. It was awesomely epic. Just as the song was hitting a crescendo I ripped of my snap shirt revealed the belt and the humbly sized crowd went wild. No my singing wasn't great but what I lacked in chops I made up for in gusto.

Are the Hunger Games good? Well I guess, they aren't great but I did really want to know what happened with the characters, and I I must have read close to 200 pages yesterday. It was well after midnight when I finished the book. I definitely need to read some non fiction. Of the last seven books I have read six have been fiction, which I hardly ever read.

I just finished reading "With the Old Breed" by Eugene Sledge. Fantastic non-fiction book.

I'm so glad you posted about karaoke. I must say that _I_ had the time of my life while watching you sing that and the snap shirt did not go unnoticed. In fact, of all my birthday huluhbaloo I chose that moment as the comment for my FB status. And I'm so glad I could loan you the books and help better prepare you for whatever pop-culture-related conversation might come your way.
