Weekend Warrior

First off, a big thank you to everyone who contacted me about my last post. I sincerely appreciate your thoughts.

Summer is now in full swing and that means busy weekends for me. On Saturday I had a ward activity, softball game, and a wedding reception. I brought a cadre of photographers with me to make sure that it was well documented.

The Fun Run / Pancake Breakfast turned out to be a great success. We had a lot of participation in both the run and the pancakes afterward. I considered my attire for the event, and went for a patriotic Angels theme. The Rally Monkey and I ran together, in my new Kobe's.

We have a lot of runners in the Ward. I am not one of them. I am a decently fast sprinter but any distance and I am just completely wrecked. They actually got footage of the disaster that was me after one mile.

Once the run was over we went to our new building and enjoyed a pancake breakfast. I have been the activities chair since September and I still never know how much food to buy. Generally I go with the the philosophy, better too much than not enough.

Shannon who is not even in my ward, was kind enough to lend her griddle and her culinary skills to the cause.

After a relatively pain free clean up I was able to take a little break before my softball game. I woke up at 5:30 for the activity because I was so nervous (it's a Dorsch thing, we freakout about over sleeping), that I was happy to catch an afternoon nap.

The softball game was pretty much, well, let's let Dennis Green describe the situation for us. Just insert "The Constants" every time you hear "The Bears"

That pretty much sums it up. Softball will get it's own post once the season is over. Personally I went 4-4 on the afternoon. Strangely enough I played Angels style again, and go thrown out twice for being overly aggressive on the base path. I got thrown out at home trying to score on my first hit, and thrown out at third trying to stretch a triple. Whoops. In my defense we were down 13-1 at the time.

I played pretty well at first base, and had one really cool stretch for the ball that I couldn't quite keep my toes on the bag for.

I've been reading Star Wars books like crazy this month (four already). There is a series called New Jedi order than I enjoy, and am going to try and finish this summer. I spent a little time after my game reading.

My old roommate KJ got married on Saturday, so Shannon, Joe, Dan, and myself went to the reception which was really nice. They had it outside and it was a very pleasant and bug free evening ( a rarity this time of year in VA). The food was good, and the company was enjoyable. Kate and Kaleb had a photo station where you could dress up a little and have your pictures taken. I put on the newsboy cap and a grew a mustache, Shannon  wore white gloves.

From what I could tell, things generally went off without a hitch, although Kate's sister was in labor, which was pretty unexpected.

Between the fun running, softball, and dancing I was exhausted (but very happy) and ready to be back at my place.
