Meet My Groomsman Pt. 2 - Josh Rose

I spent the last few days enjoying the good life. I worked on Independence Day but still had a great evening. I enjoyed a Seven Up with my fellow Pepperdiners at the American rrestaurant near our house and were able to light a few psuedo fireworks to celebrate the greatest nation in the world. We concluded our festivities with a viewing of Amazing Spiderman in 3D which I really enjoyed. I spent the last four days touring around Israel and saw a lot of great sites. That's for a future blog post

I imagine that you have all be waiting for the next exciting installment of this great series Meet My Groomsman. I want to introduce you to Mr. Josh Rose. One of my oldest and bestest friends.

When did you meet?

Josh and I met in Pre School at Hillcrest. We went to elementary school, Middle School, and High School together. We did scouts together. I can never remember a time I wasn't friends with Josh.

Nickname

In High School he got the nickname MF Josh Rose. The subtlety is in the pronunciation. Just thinking about it makes me laugh. There are people reading this right now who know exactly what I am talking about.

Where does he live?

Josh and his lovely bride Heather live in Chino Hills, CA with their kids. Josh reminds me never to say just Chino. His house is a lot of fun. He has tons of movies, and comics, plus a huge TV.

Who does he root for?

Remember when I mentioned how I had too many Clipper fans amongst my groomsmen. Josh loves the Clippers, Dodgers, Tigers, and Lions. When we were in junior high the 49ers and the Lions had a pretty good rivalry. Anytime one of our teams suffered a debilitating loss we made sure to immediately call one another to rub it in.

What does he like?

The reason Josh and I get along so well is because we like almost all of the same things. Josh likes, sports, comic books, movies. He is the reason I got into Star Wars, and helped cultivate my deep and abiding love for X-Men. We can talk ( and have) for hours about this stuff. He used to watch wrestling, but I don't think he does anymore. I don't think he loves it, but he does work a ton.

Which Star Wars Character is he most like?

I thought a lot about this because he is the one who will take this the most seriously. Chewbacca. But not because he is hairy (although he can grow a pretty good beard). Josh is a dedicated and reliable friend. He is a loyal friend who I can always count on. Much like Han can count on Chewie. Also Josh has been known to pull arms out of sockets when he loses at board games.

Things you should know about Josh:

  • I gave the toast at Josh and Heather's Wedding. I was so nervous. I practiced about 100 times.
  • Whenever Josh and I went camping for scouts we always shared Josh's giant tent. One night Josh and I were talking and I fell asleep. Josh told me he talked for another ten minutes before he realized this.
  • The summer before sixth grade josh and I went to summer camp together. We built a space station, we bristled when someone told us that our space station was not scientifically viable.
  • In seventh grade Josh and a couple of other friends were making a video. Josh was supposed to be a slave. I was filming and as director decided that Josh looked too clean. So we rubbed dirt all over Josh. The next day and school he was covered in a rash. Turns out is was poison oak. WHOOPS.
  • Josh shaved his head bald in 12th grade and made an outstanding Darth Maul.
  • Whenever he goes to IN-N-Out he orders two cheeseburger and a milk (at least I think he does).
  • We went to Disneyland and Josh told me all about these Star Wars books he was reading. I've been hooked on Starwars ever since.
  • One time Josh and I were in Uptown Whittier and found 150 dollars on the street. It was remarkable. We turned it into the police and when no one claimed it after 90 days we got the money. I spent it on X-Men action figures.
  • Anytime I have a question about buying a car I ask Josh. He is the expert.
  • I've known Heather since sixth grade. She was a year ahead of us in school. When we were in 11th grade she was the TA in our Chemistry class. That;s how they started dating and the rest is history.
  • One time Josh had Ryan, Javier, and myself over. The later it got the zanier we got. It culminated in an all out licorice fight at around 2:00 AM. I remember this fondly. Heather remembers this less fondly.
  • Josh's day off is Tuesday and that was always my long day at school. I was pumped when Josh had a Tuesday off and was able to come to a Lakers game with Jordan, and B-Rock. I told him that there was no way I was getting married if he wasn't a groomsman.
