So you may wondering what the nexus of this blog is. Well I shall tell you. TV shows on DVD is what has done it. Thanks to that I have seen every episode of 24, caught the first season of Heroes, discovered the awesomeness of Arrested Development (thanks Jord) and even witnessed first hand that seasons one and two of Big Love portray real LDS pretty accurately. If you think about it just a few years ago you were stuck looking for reruns or maybe never seeing a favorite series again. So there are a lot of great shows that you can catch up thanks to this. However I have also noticed that things I love don't always stand the test of time. Case in point. Silver Hawks.
I think most of the guys my age will remember this show, if not basically it was Thundercats in space. When I was like six years old I loved this show. I remember I would sing the theme song to my mom. These metal superheroes flew and space and fought Mon Starr. So one day I was searching blockbuster online and saw that the complete series was newly available on DVD. I was pretty excited considering this was one of my favorite when I was a kid. However I hadn't seen the show in more than 20 years. Well I rented it, watched a few episodes and thought...meh. It was boring, predictable, and without any variety. Every episode was pretty much the same. Now I think it is definitely a good thing that my taste has evolved since I was six, but I was ever so slightly disappointed that this show I enjoyed so much when I was young was not much of anything. I imagine I would have similar feelings about He-Man, Transformers, or even MASK. I also experienced similar feelings when I got the show Millennium on DVD. This show that had scared and captivated me as a teenager was now to me slow and dated. The main character played by Lance Henriksen is a Seahawks fan. During one of the episodes he talks about the hopes of the team rest upon the shoulders of Chris Warren. Currently I have Briscoe County Jr. in my Blockbuster que. My favorite show when I was in sixth grade. We'll see how that goes.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had similar reactions.

Ok, like how we took the Baskers to Knott's Berry fam for dinner and it was DISGUSTING.
The movie The Waterboy came out when I was in high school playing football. I thought it was the funniest movie I'd ever seen.
About 6 years later, I watched it again. I kept waiting for the funny parts. It was disappointing.
Thats just what I thought danilee. Also, I re-read the "scariest" book from when I was in like 3rd grade called Terror at the Zoo....and it was like lameo
I loved the Disney show the Fluppy Dogs SOOOO much when I was a kid. My sister found it on ebay a few years ago and got it for me for Christmas. It was not even close to as cool as I remembered.
I went to the Spice Girls movie opening night and thought it was awesome. 6 months later I convinced a group of friends it was worth watching. Big mistake.
That having been said, the Gnome Mobile is currently in my Net Flix cue. Am I going to regret this?
I bought the first season of Fraggle Rock on DVD, still watchable but no where near what I remember. Silver hawks is about the worst cartoon from the 80's. I saw it on cartoon network a while back and couldn't make it through an episode. The xmen cartoon held up pretty well I think. I could be a little biased though.
I loved Silver Hawks and Thundercats! But your discovery is the very reason I avoid watching Saved by the Bell when it's on - my inner tween can't bear to see Zack Morris fall from his pedestal.
