I Wish Every Day Was Brat Day + Haiku

Some of the best plans are made on my front porch. Sitting there in my chair, often with my iPod and some reading material, my roommates and I concoct schemes, and ideas that we feel will in some way entertain us and our associates.

Earlier this summer as we sat on the porch we came up with what we believed was a brilliant idea. My new roommate and native Wisconsinite Paul told us about an annual summer tradition, Brat Fest. Generally celebrated on the last day of July it's an excuse to eat, swim and, sing. We talked about some ideas we had for a party and set it in motion. We knew we would need a lot of bratwurst, appropriate sides, an apparatus to take a "dip in the drink", and a select guest list.

Since I was at youth conference leading up to the party, there wasn't much I could do for the preparation the day of the event. When I got home, everything was in order and I knew we were going to have a great time. A few of the guests didn't really think we were having a pool party and couldn't believe what they saw when they showed up.

I was in charge of the invitations and acquiring the pool. We had initially thought about getting a kiddie pool, but I ended up buying an above ground pool by Intex. Intex incidentally is endorsed by world renowned fashion model Jennifer Stanworth.  I executed both of these tasks with precision in my own humble opinion.

Brat day brings together a number of things I enjoy. Food, swimming, and an excuse for me to walk around with my shirt off.

Master Chef and Wisconsinite Dan Jennejohn prepared the Brats while Scott infused them with a little Japanese flavor on the grill.

We had a tremendous turnout for our event. Part of the the Brat Day tradition is singing the Brat Day Song.

Thanks to everyone came*, it was a blast. We already have plans to bust out the pool one more time this summer. Many lessons were learned from Brat Day, not the least of which is that 19th and Kent is the most dominant house in the Colonial Ward, and without questions throws the best Invitation Only parties.

If today were BratDay, a brat would be right here (points to stomach).

I'm surprised Petechat found the brats to begin with!
