If you have read Pete Chat for any significant amount of time, you are no doubt aware of my deep and abiding love of all things Sweden. A few weeks ago my friend Megan mentioned that one of her old mission companions and current Swede, Rakel would be coming for a visit. I filed it in my memory bank, and didn't think much of it.
One Saturday Megan picked me up for a meeting that we were going to and there was Rakel. Rakel is from Jönköping which was my second to last area. My companion at the time Adam Bodell and I actually went to her birthday party. So Rakel gives me an opportunity to practice my Swedish (which frankly and hadn't had a ton of confidence in lately) and catch up on what was going on in Sweden. Rakel and I decided that we would cook a Swedish meal for our friends and roommates.
Shannon and I made a quick trip down to Ikea to get the ingredients, and the next day, the cooking began.
We went with the Swedish Standard of Meatballs, Brown Sauce, Potatoes, and a selection of Swedish treats. Neither Rakel nor I are accomplished chefs but the food turned out pretty great. We had about ten people over and by the end all of the food was gone.
Good food, good company. Nothing wrong with that.
