How You Do a Saturday.

It's a good thing that Sunday is the day of rest, because Saturday certainly isn't. My Saturday was jam packed really from the time I got up to well into the wee hours of Sunday morning it was go go go.

I don't know if I have mentioned it before but I am participating in a group called Youth Solutions Initiative. Basically it gives ambitious young people, and opportunity to plan events and lead their peers in activities they are interested in. We started this about three months ago and slowly but surely we are working on getting the organization up and running. Every Saturday morning I meet with some pretty amazing young people. We are in the process of planning our first event, a family fun fair on June 6th. The idea is to give the young people an opportunity to do the planning. I work as a mentor and give the kids ideas, feedback, and suggestions on how to make the event work. It has been very interesting to see this organization come together.

Once YSI was donen and the muffins eaten, Shannon and I headed over to the Goodwill to find outfits for the Colonial Thrift Store Prom (CROM). I remember fondly dressing up in crazy clothes for a dance in college and thought that might be kind of a fun idea for the Ward. For the last four weeks I had been stressing out about how the activity would. I kept meaning to go and find what I would wear but it kept getting pushed to the back burner. We went to Goodwill and I found a few things. I was most excited about this vest that was much too short for me, but I knew would be perfect for the event. After I found the rest of my ensemble it was time to head over to my softball game. Anyone reading this blog likely knows how competitive I am. I can't stand to lose whether it is in UNO, Mario Kart, or flag football. When I compete, I am there to win. I am playing softball with a bunch of friends from church. Our team name is the Saturday's Warriors. I am happy to report I got my lucky number twelve. I pitch and play first base and hit second in the line up. There was some good news and bad news as far as how the game went on Saturday.

The good news is that for the day I went 4-5. I had three singles, one double, one batted in and one run scored. I was the most consistent player on our team. The bad news is that we lost the game that counted 12-1. Obviously a few adjustments need to be made. Nevertheless I enjoyed competing and being out in the nice weather. I do not however enjoy losing.

Since I am the Ward Activity Committee Co-Chair, my crack committee and I (along with some very appreciated help from non committee members) had to decorate and set up for the CROM. We had it in the new building on 23rd St and took special care not to wreck anything before the big open house the following weekend.

We had the theme of "A Night With The Stars". We decorated, had a place where people could get their pictures taken, and danced our little hearts out. We had a pretty terrific turn out, and I heard generally positive things about the evening.

I broke two of my rules for personal style for the evening. I parted my hair and wore white shoes before Memorial day. I was really glad when quite a few people stayed the help clean up. By 12:30 we were out of there. As much as I enjoyed the CROM, I was slightly distracted because UFC was going on. My roommates ordered it, So when I got home, I fired it up and enjoyed it immensely, as I got to the main event I was fading fast, it was well after 2:00 AM at this point. I closed my eyes for a moment and when I opened them again, I had missed the whole fight. I had to rewind it and watch it again. I didn't end up getting in bed until almost 3:00 AM. It was a busy but very enjoyable Saturday.

What? No tag? I was at the baseball game and crom and freaking won (if you aren't cheating, you aren't trying).

Yes, I fully realize this is your blog and my comment is totally self-centric. But, you can't blame me for that.
