Today my sweet niece Bronte turns eight. You should know that Bronte, is a social butterfly, wants to be a Fairy when she grows up, insists that her clothes always have some sparkle or flair to them, loves to do missionary work, and is generally a fantastic little girl. I'm excited to be go home next week for her baptism.
I was conflicted last night about whether to watch the LOST finale or the Lakers game. I watched the first half of the game, where the Lakers looked great and no so great at times. I set the DVR to record the second half and watched LOST. I hate watch recorded sports so I ended up checking on the score. When I found out the Lakers lost, I didn't bother watching the second half. I thoroughly enjoyed the finale. I watched it with the Dans, and Scott. Nelson, Inouye, and myself have seen every episode and there were still parts where we had no idea what was going on. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the ending ( I won't spoil it if you haven't seen it but I can't help but mention how surprised I was with Mr. Eko and Walt coming back as cyborgs.)
I appreciate Michele, Melissa, and Chelsea for inviting us over for dinner. It was good food and good company. I was glad that I could share with them the four points we learned about the divinity of womanhood.
1. Our women should be leaders...not led.
2. Always compliment modesty.
3. Do not encourage cattiness or gossip. (Even when it is funny and enjoyable)
4. Umm, I forgot 4.
The World Cup is coming up next month, which is just about the only time I enjoy soccer. My dad first got me excited about it in 1990 when it was played in Italy and we watched on TV. It was the first time the US had been in the World Cup for many years, and West Germany won. Thus began the beginning of my internal conflict...who to root for. I am a Yankee Doodle Dandy on my mom's side and as German as they come on my dad's side. After careful consideration I decided that i would root for the Germans in International Soccer. I was in Germany when they made it to the finals of the World Cup in 2002, and watched every minute of their games in 2006. But, I love America, Landon Donovan is my favorite player on the LA Galaxy which is the MLS team I root for. But then again Michael Ballack is my favorite player all together, and he's out for the tournament. You see my dilema. This came to a head on Friday night when I was deciding which jersey to buy. I already have three German jerseys, but they are the team I want to win the tournament. I don't have a USA jersey, and I wasn't so sure I liked the design. So what did I do? Well, I asked myself a question. Why have one when you can have two at twice the price.
I went ahead and bought them both. I love soccer jerseys. I think I have close to ten, and I don't even like soccer that much.
So chances are you'll see me wearing these two great jerseys over the next five weeks.

FROM BRONTE:
Thank you Uncle Peter. I like you. Love you. Youre awesome. Thanks for blogging about me. Yesterday I got to see newly hatched blue birds. I was lucky that the mommy was gone. Thats it. Love Bronte. Goodbye.
USA v. England. June 12. 2:30 Eastern time.
I really like point #2, but point #3 is hard
Only thing worse than a Laker fan, is an American Laker fan that can't even have the dignity to root for his own country in the worlds greatest sports tournament. You are dead to me...
(PS, my philly cheese steak experience couldn't have been any more similar to yours, even if I had been there with you... but you are still dead to me!)
