My Legacy

I love facebook. It is a fun way to keep in contact with friends and a place to put pictures. One of the fun things about facebook is that you update your status. I have been pretty good about my update. Sometimes it is a little philosophical other times it is topical and very often it is related to how my sports teams are playing. I enjoy seeing what other people have their status set as.

Currently I am reading a book called "Can I Keep My Jersey?" by Paul Shirley. He is a journeyman basketball player and tells about some of his experiences travelling the world playing basketball. He played a bit in the NBA and he tells some funny stories about his NBA teammates. Some of the stories don't portray his fellow NBA players in the best light and under those circumstances he doesn't name names. That being said he gives clues and if you are at all familiar with the teams he plays with you can do a bit of detective work and figure out just who is he talking about. It can be disappointing when he doesn't name names because I'd like to know who is a bad tipper, or who is quoting the Bible and then cheating on his wife. I think Paul knows that discretion is the better part of valor.

So what you might ask does this have to do with my Legacy. Well I was checking facebook today and noticed that one of my friends (like Paul I'm not ready to name names) mentioned her current geographic locations. It dawned on me (and mind you I have no concrete evidence this is purely speculative) that she was probably there for a wedding of a girl I used to like. Now this girl is getting married and there is a very good shot that I was the last person she went on a date with before her fiance. I know for absolute certain that this isn't the first time I have been in this position.

When these young ladies look back on their lives, (I'm not sure if one is quite as sentimental as I am but the other certainly is) and they think who was the last guy I went out with before I started to date my now husband, the answer will be Peter B. Dorsch. It's kinda weird.

I'm not bothered by this really, in fact it's kind of flattering, it's like I am an answer to a trivia question. I feel like, well maybe it didn't work out but it was fun while it lasted. Before there was you there was Peter.

I have no idea if this makes sense, but I am glad I have the platform to write about it. I want the blog to be a bit more than me just recapping my weekend (which I will continue to do) but also a place to write down the random musings I have.

I get the feeling that I'm just a tool used to prepare girls for their husbands, too. I read that Shirley book. Pretty good.
