So last November my dear friend Kathryn ( I call her Kitty Kat, and Leo I know you were wondering about Kat so we'll count this as your informal introduction) informed me that she had purchased tickets to see Bon Jovi in February. I told her that sounded awesome and if she needed someone to tag along that I would be that person. I wouldn't call my self a huge Bon Jovi fan but I had always liked their acoustic version of Wanted Dead or Alive. So after some care tutelage by Kat including a trip to the Karaoke place to sing Livin' on a Prayer ( a great karaoke song) I was ready to go to the concert.
Kitty Kat and I. We are so Rock N Roll.We got to the concert which was at the Verizon center in Washington DC. The place was packed at there were a large amount of "Cougars" there. And I am not talking about BYU cougars. Jon said during the concert that Bon Jovi has been around since 1982. That means that their peak (although they still produce great music) in the late 80's was twenty years ago. That puts you right smack in the center of Cougar Country. (Not Provo). We got there and Daughtry was just opening up. They played a short set and it was great. my favorite was when they played the opening chords and riff to "Home Sweet Home" by Motley Crue. The crowd erupted and sang along. Daughtry then transitioned into their song "Home". It was very well done.

The place was packed.
Kat and I discussed which song Jon would sing first. We knew it had to be a song that was popular and upbeat so the crowd would be into it. We also knew that it wouldn't be Livin' on a Prayer because that is arguably their most popular song. We agreed on "You Give Love A Bad Name" . Alas he sang Lost Highway (the name of the tour) and the second song was as we predicted. Everyone was singing along which was great. Jon is a total rock star and for the next two hours he worked hard. Kat and I thought it was especially funny when he referred to Richie Sambora as his "consigliere" the same thing I call Dan Nelson.
He sang all the hits and I was especially excited when he sang LOAP which the crowd went crazy for. Everyone was screaming at the top of their lungs.
They finished up and then came out for a an encore which included Wanted Dead or Alive. We left our ears ringing our souls delighted.
On the metro ride home there was a man who had a heavy back pack on. The Metro jerked to a halt and the back pack went flying. Causing the man to say "F-ing Metro" and then when he composed himself "I hate this GD Metro" Kat and I wanted to laugh but we didn't want to embarrass the guy any more. This was so funny I called Kat three days later to remind her of it.
We had a great time and I am so glad Kat invited me (srsly Leo...she's a keeper). An amazing evening that ended in a Blaze of Glory.
JBJ is one of the few people who can pull off the Leather Vest Look

Remember that time we went to the Bon Jovi concert? That was awesome.
I've been waiting for this blog for days, and now I can relax knowing the highlights from the experience have been properly immortalized. I also appreciate all of the free publicity, as well as the absence of any commentary on my frequent professions of love for Jon. But after seeing the pictures of him in his leather vest, can anyone blame me? I think not.
And a great JBJ allusion in the haiku, but srsly, does Texas really deserve to be included?
I'm confused. But, I'm glad that you enjoyed yourself at the concert. I guess Bon Jovi can be luxury, only because one time I went to New Jersey and stayed in a luxury hotel.
March: STOP IT.
Yes, it's always appropraite to include Texas in a haiku. Always. :)
Marc is trying to get tickets to JBJ when they come to the AA arena - apparenty everyone wants the suite though, so I don't know if it's going to happen (you remember my denial of JT's concert last year). I think it sounds great.
