For the third consecutive weekend I have had the opportunity to see my beloved LA Angels play. They were finishing up a brutal road trip in New York over the weekend with the Yankees. There aren't likely to be any photos in this posting because I lost my camera on the Chinatown bus last night. At least I think I lost it. Dan (roommate and die hard Yankees fan) took the bus up on Friday afternoon. We dropped our stuff off at Seth's house and left for 161st and River Ave. home of the Bronx Bombers. The game was exciting and pretty well back and forth unfortunately the Angels lost. We headed back to Seth's place which incidentally is really nice and not all that far from where Jenn and Marc lived. I think he is pleased he no longer lives in Harlem.
Dan had told me that we needed to go to the Stage Deli. Apparently during the 1961 season (one of the most famous in Baseball History) Mantle and Maris used to go and eat there. Seth and Dan had breakfast but I went straight for the Pastrami. It was delicious and they definitely do not skimp on the meat. The game didn't start until late afternoon so we went down to SoHo. I was excited for the Burberry store. Turns out everything there is expensive. I thought a Burberry scarf would be cool for winter until I saw it retailed for $295. Eventually we ended up at H&M and I bought a semi ridiculous hat that I really like. It's like a black fedora with skulls on it. We left Seth and headed for the game back up to the Bronx. Saturday's game was a a pitcher's duel in the truest sense. Roger Clemens and John Lackey pitched brilliantly and it came down to the Angels bullpen doing what they do best. K-Rod and Shields were absolute studs and Howie Kendrick had an excellent game.
After a quick trip back to Seth's we headed to Junior's at Times Square. It is well known for it's cheesecake. Often times things that are described as "world famous" don't live up to the hype but this was really good cheesecake.
Sunday was so hot and the Angels stunk up the place. They only got a runner to third base once. It was great to be watching baseball but it was a terrible game for an Angels fan. After thoroughly baking in the sun Dan and I headed back to Seth's. All four his roommates were home and we watched an episode of one of our favorite programs Man vs. Wild. Bear Grylls rules the world.
Our bus was supposed to leave at 8:00 pm. and dealing with the Chinatown bus was an absolute disaster. No order whatsoever. People screaming pushing and irritated. We ended up getting on the wrong bus twice and finally got on the right bus at 9:30. We had to stop in Philadelphia and didn't end up back in DC until after 2:00 am. It was a really fun trip and Seth was a gracious host. I wish the Angels would have done better but I was still happy to see my guys.
I emailed the Chinatown bus company and hopefully they will locate my camera...but I doubt it.

Bummer about the camera Pete - but glad that you had a fun weekend. I kind of think junior's is overrated (plus the Metro North train/filth fumes in the basement of GCS sort of kill any chance of ambiance) and prefer Carnegie Deli's cheesecake.
Sorry about the bus, what a nightmare.
I love the Big Ballpark in the Bronx and I was pleased the Yankees acutually played well against the Angels.
Although baseball brought us together we were miles apart on our allegiances. The only thing that took us full circle to even ground was booing a Sox fan.
DC DC DC you go, you go.
