Thoughts on Palmyra, Pagent, and Peter

So last weekend I went to Palmyra, New York. Many of the church history sites including the Sacred Grove, the Hill Cumorah, the Whitmer Farm, were some of the places I visited. It was a quick trip and we had a lot of fun. Here are some pictures and then I'll have some bullet points.
The Sun was shining brightly with the Palmyra, New York Temple in the BackgroundThe Monument marking the Hill Cumorah

Michael, Lincoln, Amy and Myself enjoying Chill and Grill. Thanks for the Water Sneaky Uncle Mike

The David Whitmer Farm. The Church was Organized here April, 6 1830, Fayette Township, New York.

  • Matt, Mandy, and Myself left the Melrose at about 6:19 pm. It was heavy traffic all the way to Baltimore.
  • Coincidentally the Animae festival was going on in Baltimore. We saw people in Spandex, Tails, huge fake guns and all sorts of other stuff. It was bizarre.
  • We picked up Amy in Baltimore. I made the first syphilis joke within about 2 minutes. It couldn't be helped*.
  • Of all the places to rendez-vous with Ryan, Kaylyn and Matt Fischer it ended up being somewhere on the interstate in front of store of ill repute. It was quite funny.
  • Matt Phillips was an absolute champion. He did a ton of driving and we were thankful for it.
  • I put together an awesome play list to sing along to on my iPod. Some of my favorites included "Here I Go Again" by White Snake, "Don't Rock the Boat" by The Hughes Corporation, "Dancing Queen" by ABBA and a very appropriate song about a small town girl and a boy from North Detroit.
  • We arrived at the Camp at about 2:30 am. We found Cabins for us left for a minute only to return and find that we had been overtaken by ladies. We were not pleased about this. The "leader" of the women admitted that she hadn't checked any of the other cabins for other spaces. Typical.
  • Joe favored us with the story of Uncle Sneaky. My hydration needs were well taken care of that night.
  • Saturday morning we went canoeing. I decided against taking my camera and alas I have no pictures because of it. It was quite fun and I did go swimming which was very cold. I told Amy to remember what we had sung about last night about not tipping the boat over.
  • At right around this point I started to get hungry. I also forget to bring "product" for my hair. I looked like I was about 15 in most of my pictures.
  • We visited the Whitmer farm and the stop at the Hill Cumorah to drop of blankets reserving our spots.
  • We waited a long time in line for the Chill and Grill. It really wasn't worth the wait. I did however put a star on Whittier's approximate location.
  • I used the Bull Horn in the parking lot. Of course I told everyone not to look in my direction it was precious.
  • There were plenty of "Anti-Mormons" in Palmyra. I gently (with the bull horn) reminded them to be quote "Be nice to Mormons, they are good people!"
  • Finally full and tired from going to bed at 3:30 am I had a nice nap in the shade. I listened to my iPod, read Men's Journal, and enjoyed the beautiful weather.
  • The top of the Hill Cumorah has an amazing view and the monument is really nice.
  • We went to the Sacred Grove. It was wonderful.
  • The Pagent was fun but by that time I was pretty tired. It was remarkable how well a bunch of "amateurs" performed
  • I am coming closer and closer to the point where I can not attend events where I am just put together with random people who feel it is their duty to counsel and boss me. I am absolutely sick and tired of these people who for some reason feel they are duty bound to tell what I should be doing and how I should be doing it. If I want to make observations and announcements with a bull horn then guess what I am going to do it. This was not a family camp. There were no little kids who needed to be asleep these are people in their
twenties. LIGHTEN UP! This is why you are single...you are no fun. Basically you
    suck.
I was so angry about this. Sure I will continue to go to these activities but I feel it is telling that I made no effort to make new friends beyond those I travelled with.
  • We had a leisurely ride home on Sunday and were greeted by Mary and a home cooked Spaghetti dinner.

It was a lot of driving but it was loads of fun. I was glad I got to see these important sites and I am glad I was able to yell at people through a bull horn.

Peter, the comments from the bullhorn were hilarious and let's be honest, those people were lame.
